Reviews for 'E' Films

Eagle Eye

A thrilling chase into the potential dangers of technology. This film had a lightning-fast pace and plenty of Shia LaBeouf, whose name is really difficult to spell, acting like a paranoid freak. And rightly so, I might add. The twist-and-turn plot was adventurous and exciting, but I still didn’t feel like it offered anything solid that I hadn’t seen before, for some reason. Conspiracy theories and government plots to control the masses are fairly common in films these days, so while I enjoyed this one I wouldn’t say it was totally new and uncovered ground. Having achieved a 3.5 on our scale, it’s definitely worth a watch.

Enchanted

Chiefly because I was forced to watch it (my eyes weren’t taped open, but my interests at the time benefited from doing so) I sat down with a friend to see Enchanted. The fact that it is a childrens’ movie that teaches kids to have completely unrealistic expectations of love is enough to make one cringe. Add in a cast of bumbling characters and you have a slapstick adventure about romance between cartoon characters and real life people. Wonderful!

The leading actress is gorgeous, but that’s only a factor for me because I’m not a kid. I have to admit the film wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but it was still pretty horrific. It gets one and a half flames on the scale.

Entrapment

I still don’t understand why a sexy female thief like Catherine Zeta-Jones would go for a fat old guy like Sean Connery – but maybe she does and maybe she doesn’t – in this intense caper film. It’s the classic setup that leaves the audience never knowing who’s on who’s side, even up to the very last minute. I’m a big fan of heist films and this one is no exception. It’s a good chance to sit back and go along for the ride, especially when they pull their final job, which will net them about 8 billion dollars if it goes off successfully. That’s a lotta scratch, and well worth the watch.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Not only is Jim Carrey the man, but if Kate Winslett was a man she’d be the man too. Visually, this movie was absolutely brilliant. Genius, to be exact. Story-wise, it was stunning and quite refreshing. The entire thing was done so magnificently that you really just have to watch it to have any idea what I’m talking about. The French dude who directed this movie is a pimp-magician with the camera; he used all camera tricks and very few (if any) special effects. This has to be one of the greatest movies I have seen in the past 6 months, and it’s definitely the best Focus Feature film I’ve ever watched in my life. Other movies from Focus Features include “Lost in Translation,” “Swimming Pool”, and “Vanity Fair,” all of which totally sucked, and I haven’t even seen the last one. This is a 5-flame movie.

Elf

Holy crap, what a hilarity-filled holiday adventure! You won’t need a stupid telescope to catch the star-studded performance of Will Ferrell, though you might need one for the mediocre performances of much of the rest of the cast. This movie was a knee-slapping joyride without being overly crude, and it is indeed one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. The ending was kind of dumb, but other than that it was crazy go nuts. 4 out of 5, I say.
