Entrapment

I still don’t understand why a sexy female thief like Catherine Zeta-Jones would go for a fat old guy like Sean Connery - but maybe she does and maybe she doesn’t - in this intense caper film. It’s the classic setup that leaves the audience never knowing who’s on who’s side, even up to the very last minute. I’m a big fan of heist films and this one is no exception. It’s a good chance to sit back and go along for the ride, especially when they pull their final job, which will net them about 8 billion dollars if it goes off successfully. That’s a lotta scratch, and well worth the watch.

The Naked Gun

That low-life scum O.J. Simpson was actually pretty funny in the Naked Gun series, but if you’re a fan of Leslie Nielsen’s deadpan style and you haven’t seen this classic, it’s one of his funniest films. Nielsen plays Frank Drebin, a bumbling cop who always ends up saving the day despite his inability to perform even the most menial of tasks without screwing it up somehow. While I’m not usually a fan of slapstick, it’s done to great effect and complements Nielsen’s foolish, sarcastic humor perfectly. Not the kind of epic film that deserves a 5, or even a 4, but it’ll do the trick to make you laugh.

Pirates of Silicon Valley

Shiver me timbers, it’s a movie about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, two of the largest geeks ever to walk the planet! Quite an interesting docudrama about a sheisty, thieving crook (Gates) and a psychopathic tree-hugging idealist (Jobs) who founded two of the largest and most successful tech companies in the world today. Watching this movie will teach you that the only way to climb to the top is to use everyone around you as stairs. Very good, very good indeed.
